Ingredients:
- 4
slices of roast beef – approx. 150g per person
- 4
onions – cut into rings
- 300 ml
vegetable broth
- 1 tbsp
mustard
- 1 tbsp
soy sauce
- 2 tbsp
gravy powder
- 1 tbsp
flour for the onions
- 1 tbsp
flour for the sauce
- 1 piece
butter for the onions to sauté
- 1 piece
butter for the sauce
salt, pepper
Preparation:
Rub the meat with mustard and season with salt and pepper.
In a bowl, salt and pepper the onions and sprinkle with flour. Mix well and let stand for about 5 minutes.
Heat the butter in a pan and fry the onions in it until golden brown.
Put the onions back in the bowl and sear the meat on both sides in the pan.
Then set the meat aside and let it rest. Meanwhile, melt the remaining piece of butter in the pan on a low setting.
Put the flour in the pan and stir well. This is a kind of roux.
Then pour the broth into the pan, add soy sauce and gravy and bring to the boil.
Now you can season it again with salt and pepper.
After about 5 minutes, it's time to put half of the onions back into the sauce. Bring it all to a boil and then add the meat.
Once the meat is in the pan, it's time to turn off the stove. Depending on how you want your meat (raw, medium, well done) you can now let the whole thing simmer for another 2 to 3 minutes for "medium". For a meat that should be totally done, you can of course let it simmer a few minutes longer. However, if you want it more in the direction of "raw" - then off with meat on the plate.. 🙂
When serving the onion roast, you can use the remaining onions as a topping.
Tip:
- If you love onions – feel free to use 8 onions instead of 6.
